/ I started meditating 20 mins a day, 5 days a week back in November. I’ve always eaten healthily and exercised regularly. I started meditating after a stressful time that caused me insomnia. Meditation was the only change I made to my routine. Here are the benefits I’ve noticed
/ Deep Focus: in project work, on zoom calls, in board meetings, listening to friends & family etc. I can sit for hours and now remain deeply focused with minimal distractions fluttering through my head.
/ Decreased procrastination: there would always be 2-3 things on my to do list that I’d put off over and over again. Now I hit it straight on
/ Better sleep: I meditate just before bed, this switches me off from the days craziness and I go to bed without a spinning mind
/ Less reactive: I’ve always been feisty, and at times defensive. I’m now able to respond rather than react - a skill I didn’t realise I needed to learn.
/ Increased empathy for others: elements of mindful meditation educates you on others and expands your mind to to better understand different personality styles, and what they mean by the way they act.
/ Increased creativity: I’ve had a long lifetime of writers block. I can now sit on a tube an bust out this tweet storm (it’s still weird on the tube, there’s no one else here)
/ I couldn’t recommend meditation highly enough. The deep focus has been my favourite benefit of all. And even now that I’ve returned to sleeping well, it’s a part of my routine I’ll definitely keep up going forward!
