It’s fucked up that saying “The industry failed DMX” feels like an old cliché but it’s true. Labels and large management companies need to look into their duty of care policies towards artists, even after they’ve stopped releasing.
Artists are thrown into a larger than life lifestyle with access to absolutely anything they want, even encouraged to engage in vices to perpetuate certain images, then when they’ve stopped selling they’re dropped with all the demons that the pitfalls of fame bring.
I don’t know what DMX’s life was like, but he spoke very publicly about his label situation and how he was exploited. Given how tumultuous his life had been, I seriously doubt his label were supporting him with therapy, and if they were, they were taking it out of his advance
