Aesthetics have become a thing in football, to put it simply, it is how pleasing a player is on the eye. It essentially means how easy it is to watch a player, how comfortable they look on the ball, running style and so on, so forth.
I'll just go through in this relatively short thread, some players who are becoming under-appreciated, simply down to these factors.

He's the first on the list and the one you expected to be here. Yet it is the truth, Harry Maguire (you could argue) is in the top 5 centre-backs in the league. He is a 6' 4" English centre-half, therefore he won't exactly be a fan favourite.

For some reason, people on Twitter seem to think tall, British players will be purely passion and desire, with no real talent. This is forgetting the fact he isn't the quickest of players, both pace-wise and when turning. This is downplaying the quality he has in defence.

Another victim of not being aesthetically pleasing, Aaron Wan-Bissaka. He has certainly got better this season, his tackling remains second-to-none and the attacking aspect of his game has majorly improved.

However, his dribbling and running technique may not be as pleasing on the eye as people may like, but it certainly isn't bad. If you remember 'The Bissaka chop' clip that went viral last season, when he did a stepover, that's a prime example.

Every aspect of Fred's game is unpleasing when talking about aesthetics. He looks uncomfortable when on the ball, doesn't always get passes right and often people complain about watching him on here. Despite this, Fred still offers a lot in his game.

Energy is a key, key part of his game and we have noticed that, when he is tired he doesn't offer much. His running style isn't the prettiest, though that won't be the first thing people point to about Fred, it'll be the calmness and affectiveness on the ball, or lack of.

A bit like Maguire, a 6' 4", British player won't exactly be a fan favourite, or it is very unlikely. People often have stereotypes that tall, British players are ones who pass sideways, lack pace and play purely off of passion and desire.

McTominay however, isn't slow, is somewhat adventurous with his passing and holds a real quality in the midfield, particularly when playing as a box-to-box midfielder. He is largely underrated because of this stereotype, in my opinion.

Some may frown at this one, but Marcus Rashford is definitely criticised aesthetically at times. Whether it's his finishing technique, his dribbling technique etcetera, Rashford sometimes looks off the boil. It may be down to injuries, maybe not.

He hasn't looked 100% recently and perhaps that's why, aesthetically, he's not been the same. He's not always comfortable looking on the ball neither, but he does get the job done regardless. He isnโt as much a 'victim' as others, but still has critical areas of his game.

Martial takes the brunt of this, especially when he is put on the wing. He's built up his physicality to be a centre-forward, so when he's on the wing he offers very little. This has caused his running technique to change, looking less pleasing.

Of course, it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but it still shows. He also looks slightly less comfortable on the ball now, which I'm sure has been made aware of by some. With him slowing, too, people are giving him a lot more grief than if he hadn't bulked up.

'The Welsh Sonic' as people like to nickname him, Daniel James' best and key trait is his sprint speed and acceleration. This should have no correlation, however this almost makes his other attributes seem worse, to some.

He's not always the most comfortable on the ball, but he carries it well and people don't seem to have an issue with his technique of sprint, which is a positive. His finishing technique is often criticised, however he's a got a far better finish than people praise him for.
Overall:
I believe these players, though these factors weigh them down to an extent, are having their quality as a footballer undermined because of this. Just because players aren't always pleasing on the eye, don't always look comfortable on the ball, doesn't mean they're bad.

I feel I've just repeated near enough the same thing for different players in this thread. So feel free to let me know what else I could've done, this probably wasn't my best.
