Youngest was constantly in trouble at school for not sitting still on the carpet & not paying attention.
She hated going & we moved her.
Next school curious about these difficulties. Engaged EP - spikiest profile of underlying ability i’ve seen emerged.
Placed on SEND register - supported, encouraged, given both intervention programme & self esteem boosting responsibilities. Caught up in some areas, exceeded in literacy.
Years later, as floundering adolescent, received diagnosis of ASD. Had worked *extremely hard to mask, but thinking back - clear signs.
One moral of story, reprimanding children for a deficit in skills or a difficulty is harmful.
