Is it that hard to just admit you got caught, apologize, & do better?

I used to say "mongoloid" all the time as an insult. I don't even know where I heard it as a kid & didn't know it was racist. Friend saw me say it - told me it was fucked up. I apologized, never said it again
No brownie points, pat on the backs, etc

I used to use fucked up language. We all did at some point

Doesn't make you a bad person

Just own it, apologize, don't do it again

Whack excuses just make it worse
And trust me - I know what it's like to feel immensely ashamed about it or called out and heated

I was BIG mad when my friend something to me. But I took a step back and thought about how they felt, did some research, realized I was giga in the wrong & apologized
