Last Night’s Horror :31 Year old with Single digit SPO2 & 66 Phone Calls Made!
Around 6:15PM Received a call from Ibrahim Beijing Bites about this patient who was admitted in one of the hospitals in Madivala from past 3 days and was asked to shift out because he was Tested +ve.
My number was shared with Patient’s attender and I received the call from him saying he has left the Hospital – Patient is in the Ambulance heading towards Shivaji Nagar towards his residence
The patient attender didn’t know how many ltrs of oxygen the patient was on neither they had an Oximeter to check his SPO2 – Heck the Ambulance did not have one!!
•After collecting all the details 7:30PM request was lodged with 108 to allocate a Bed
After making a lot of calls – HDU Bed was blocked at Mahavir Jain Hospital Vasanth Nagar at 8:15PM
•Ambulance reached Jain Hospital at 8:30PM – Attender said they are saying no beds available
I and Chief Medical Officer from Covid War room spoke to the doctor at Jain but they are NOT ready to take the patient in citing reason – We don’t have a bed available. Despite the availability being shown on the portal and 108 Blocking the Bed
Meanwhile the Attender says that the Oxygen Cylinder in the Ambulance is almost over
•Spoke to the Dr again at Jain requested to assist with Oxygen for some time till we find a bed in another Hospital Request refused, Requested to check the Vitals of the patient in Ambulance
Request refused again. We didn’t know what his SPO2 was !!
•It was 9PM and 108 started looking for a bed again and within few minutes I get a call back saying Bed is blocked in Mahavir Jain Girinagar – Which is in other part of town!
Informed the ambulance to rush to HBS pick up an Oxygen Cylinder from Afsar Bhai and head to Jain Hospital in Giri Nagar
•9:50PM the Ambulance reached Hospital and to my shock the Hospital again says we don’t have a bed Available !!!!
Myself and the CMO from War room got into a call again and spoke to the Doctor and they simply refused to take the patient in citing we have not started taking Govt patients yet!
•They continuously kept saying we don’t have a bed and we cannot take him in
I requested them to check his vitals the call is returned saying the SPO2 is 25!!
•Again, a lot of calls were made – Requested and pleaded the Hospital to keep him in ER and give him Oxygen for some time while we find another Bed
It took more than 20-25 Mins to convince them and finally they took him in the ER and this time his SPO2 had dropped to 7 (Yes you read that right) and gave him oxygen and medication
•Every time my phone would ring it would send me shivers - what news I’m I going to hear from the family about this young man (if you missed–He is just 31 Year Old)!!
•But this time they say the SPO2 has gone up to 57.A Ray of Hope. But this was not enough. He needed a Ventilator
12:40AM-The Attender says he has found bed in one of the Hospitals in Koramangala & would like to shift there-also there was constant pressure from the Hospital to Shift him out
•15-20 Mins Later – Ambulance with Ventilator arrived to shift him out and was taken to the Hospital in Koramangla
•It’s 4AM and the phone rings again – I hear him saying – He Passed Away 😓
•As I write this now at 10:20AM this young Man’s Body is on his Last Journey to the Burial Ground!
In this entire episode – I would like to highlight the Negligence of the Hospitals for not updating the Portal with Right Information and playing with the lives of people!!
The Hospitals should not take this lightly as a patient is being sent to hospital based on the availability of the beds shown in the Portal! I now live in fear even after a bed is blocked by 108 if the patient will really get a bed in the Hospital? #Bangalore #Covid #Story
