Prof Barney Pityana spoke offensive nonsense and he knows it. He should privately advise Prof Habib on how to respond to the enquiry and stop insulting us as he did in the SABC interview. Old people sometimes think we are fools, telling us how to feel when offended...
Doing what racists have done for centuries: sing Khumbaya lullaby thinking we’ll wake up & forget racism. His explanation is intellectually dishonest. That’s the danger of coloniality - it has black apologists & oqonda who police the thinking of black people.
Blacks who express their feelings are always caricatured as ‘outrageous’, ‘misunderstanding’, ‘angry’, ‘entitled’, & even racist. This is meant to police the feelings & thoughts of black people so they remain (step)children of the Empire. Prof Pityana is fueling epistemicide.
Professor Adam Habib is capable of responding & speaking for himself as he was in that situation & knows the start & end of the session. Prof Pityana aggravates instead of mitigating. That’s because he is speaking for the (impressing the) Empire & not for black people in general
Why must we always explain how we feel about what we deem offensive anyway?
