After using the iPhone for a few weeks I think I finally understand.
To compare it to android would be like comparing a Mercedez Benz to a Mark X. The built quality is obvious and the stability of the apps and overall reliability is better.

You don't buy the Benz because it has more features than the other guy. You buy it to stand out, to feel different, to be assured at every corner, every acceleration, and for every service.
You buy it b/c if you decide, it can become more than a car but a life partner.

It's the same with the iphone. It is more than just another of 200 different brands of phones. It's your task keeper, your note maker, your entertainment, your company. You must be able to rely on such an important part of your life. Above all, you dare to be different.
Sure it doesn't have all the customizations that android has and if you're switching over you have to do gymnastics to get your contacts and data.
The tradeoff of that flexibility is style, reliability, and substance.
