just a random thing from #TGCF and hc being hmong, you know that poison-sucking scene? this probably wasn't intentional, but there's actually a whole THING in hmong about drinking blood from someone's hand- it's a ritual between lovers to bind their souls together FOREVER
it's called hau ntshav tes. usually lovers do this when they cannot be together/cannot marry for whatever reason, they drink each other's blood from the hand so that they can meet again in the next life and be together for every lifetime after that.
there's a caveat here: if the other person dies, you WILL die too. so say you drink your lover's blood, but you both marry other people. when your old lover dies, their spirit will COME FOR YOU so you can both go to the next life together. it explains why people die unexpectedly
I like to think this aspect is represented with hc's ashes given to xl though- if the one he loves is gone, he will happily go with him too.
anyways if you needed something for like a reincarnation/soulmates kind of fanfic this is very much a thing and I'd 100% would love to see stuff with it!

oh also "hau ntshav tes" translates to "drinking blood from the hand" (lit. "drink blood hand") and if you look it up you're gonna see a lot more ghost stories than love stories haha. hmong are really hesitant about blood but I love that hc has zero fears
