So I'm gonna make a thread about this and my thoughts/experiences about the situation, given that I've been nearby for a few of the altercations. https://twitter.com/TheSpursUpShow/status/1380704067496857601
First of all, I was sitting behind the Florida dugout for the entirety of the 14-inning game, a few sections away from the student hecklers that 100% impacted the game and got into the Gators' heads. Just look at Nathan Hickey's crotch grab and their game 3 postgame antics.
Stuff like this is what makes Founders a great ballpark atmosphere. People getting into the game, getting into the opponents heads, and making it a place that other teams want no business playing in.
So after this I go to the Gardner-Webb game the following Tuesday, and I see event staff checking every single ticket of anyone sitting behind the third base line, making people get up and go to the bleachers if they don't have a ticket to sit in those sections. This was...
... a game with low attendance, mind you, so assigned seating wasn't the issue. As if that wasn't bad enough, we obviously had tonight, where a handful of people were ejected for making simple claims. I mean, telling the ump to "get some glasses" is the type of heckling that a
7 year old could pull off and everyone sitting nearby would laugh out of enjoyment. Additionally, I was sitting in the student section, and there were a group of guys sitting at the top who were heckling the right fielder all game. An event staff came over and talked to him,
and from that point forward he was completely tame because he didn't want to get thrown out. This type of stuff is embarrassing. Do you honestly think that LSU, Arkansas, Miss St, A&M, etc. would even THINK about doing this? What's the point of attending games in person if
you can't even have fun while at them? I don't know who is behind this whole crackdown on hecklers, but it needs to stop if the powers that be want Founders to be a park that opponents fear and home fans enjoy being at. Otherwise, it's going to be a ghost yard.
