The 5G gimmick in Indian smartphones.

Hey there! We will today see about the 5G gimmick in smartphones sold today and why you should not invest in a 5G in India right now.

We can see in India that 5G is not yet here but it will be here in some time(maybe 1 year) and there are many 5G smartphones just popping out of nowhere like #OnePlus9Series #oneplusnord #Mi10i etc.
Let us understand what it takes to make a 5G phone right now.

There are different bands of frequencies a maker needs to support for making a 5G smartphone.

You can see this link to understand the details: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5G_NR_frequency_bands
Right now, companies are selling the 5G phone by just supporting a few bands. Like they will just provide support for two or three bands and label their phones as 5G smartphones.

For example, #OnePlus9Series5G

We can also have a cheaper example: #Mi10i

You will see that the international variant will support a lot more bands but the Indian variant will not, why is it iso?

Ans: Warranty period. The 5G is services are available right now and thus if they claim to be 5G, they need to be real 5G.
Companies are responsible for faults on their part for the warranty period only. You can see this video of @WIONews for understanding this.

Warranty means the lifespan of the phone.
You can see that Indian variants are mostly substandard and a few 5G phones they are ok.

Personally speaking, even if a phone supports 4 to 5 bands of 5G, it does not become a 5G smartphone in real.
You can also understand the reason we get lesser bands, silent cost-cutting. They save money on licensing. Now, the companies like Samsung do not do it because of 2 reasons.
1. They can just put the Exynos chip. As it is their chip, they do not pay anyone for licensing bands
2. They care about the reputation they have made for years.

Also, some phone put a bit older processors and give 5G support through a modem like external thing
#Oneplusnord can be the example here. The major problem with them is they just lose a lot of speed, it is just like having 4G speeds on a 5G smartphone.

The phone will support one or two 5G frequencies but it will not full fill the goal of the 5G.
