hello! here’s some issues that i am very passionate about; a thread🧵
ANTI-HOMELESS ARCHITECTURE☟︎—
while homelessness in itself is an issue that is nearly unsolvable, people don’t realize a very solvable problem that is preventing homeless people from having a place to sleep or stay is in their cities. (cont.)
people fail to recognize that things they may see as “art” and “modernization” in their cities architecture is actually a way that cities keep homeless people from sleeping on their streets. simple things like park benches with railings and oddly shaped walls take part (cont.)
another name for this style is “hostile architecture”. hostile architecture comes in any form that makes it harder for homeless people to lay/sit on. hostile architecture most commonly takes place in capitalist countries such as america and england. (cont.)
✍︎︎— unfortunately there are not enough big petitions to link on this issue which is why it needs more traction. if you would like to take action, i suggest finding a local petition or homeless shelter to help start a petition, or to talk to your area’s department of housing.
REMOVE THE BOX☟︎—
anyone who commits a crime must check a box on future job applications saying that they have committed a crime. this means that people who have committed a single minor crime and people who were wrongfully convicted are often turned away from jobs (cont.)
this also means that non-white people are disproportionately affected because of the unfairness of the justice system towards people of color. not to mention the justice system has no intention of rehabilitation of criminals (cont.)
meaning that they often don’t give resources to help people who were jailed find jobs, homes, etc. causing many of these people to feel that a life of crime is all that they can turn to. (cont.)
take the fair chance pledge at this link ✍︎︎— https://bantheboxcampaign.org  (cont.)
here are the us states that have banned the box/increased their ban the box laws so far (cont.)
