I babysit for lots of autistic and ND kids, and the parents always comment how good I am with them and how the kids just love and seem to really connect with me 1/
I never tell parents that I’m autistic and ND cause I made that mistake a few times, and it immediately changes their perception of me from a talented childcare provider to an incompetent person they can’t trust with their kids 2/
And I wish that wasn’t the case. I wish I lived in a world where my being autistic and understanding their autistic kids was seen as an asset, and for the incredible opportunity that it is, 3/
Because it would it be so amazing for autistic kids to get to grow up with leaders and role models in their life that think like them, and understand them in that way. /end thread
