This is a textbook case why individual police officers should not have protection from personal lawsuits (Lt Nazario is suing these cops). There is way too much impunity in the system, and the authoritarian attitude of some individual officers and the lying is way out of control. https://twitter.com/armyofnaveed/status/1380692743438077954">https://twitter.com/armyofnav...
These officers, once they realized they had erred, allegedly said the Lt could leave w/o charges if he would âchill and let this go,â according to the lawsuitâor, he could be charged, have to go to court, and face the consequences in his military career. https://www.vice.com/en/article/y3dm3m/cops-caught-on-video-holding-a-black-army-lieutenant-at-gunpoint-then-pepper-spraying-him">https://www.vice.com/en/articl...
Police, needless to say, arenât supposed to abuse their power that way. And all of us have a constitutional right to know WHY we are being stopped and to remain silent. Police are TRAINED on these 4th and 5th Amendment rights. https://www.npr.org/2020/10/23/927134939/if-youre-stopped-by-police-you-have-rights-to-protect-you-here-s-what-to-remembe">https://www.npr.org/2020/10/2...
