anger, destruction, and trash the dragon in the upcoming storyline/album, twenty one pilots theories and thoughts (a thread)
we’ve gotten a Lot of conflicting messages from trash. he’s blue (dema) with yellow (hope) eyes and fire. he has the word “destroy” on his body and his name is trash, both negative connotations, but tyler says he represents creativity and imagination, both positive connotations.
in the music video, the shots showing the dragon, from tyler’s and josh’s perspective, are inverted, (credit @poptivist ) and when flipped the “right way” (on the right) you can clearly see the blue sky, the white-bright sun, and the dragon which seems… yellow-ish green?
i don’t even know. more of a normal dragon color tho
if the inverse is the “normal” universe, with the right-colored sky, that brings up the question, should we be looking at the album cover inverted too? is blue even trash's real color? don’t ask me what the hell this means for the storyline, or why he’s RED-ish i’m just saying
^^^ i don’t know what else to do with that and i honestly don’t think much of it, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me just thought i’d point it out. anyways moving on
back to the concept of destroying. “destroy it if i want” okay stay with me this might get a little bumpy (this is less analysis and more theory, it gets a little wild)
tyler likes lord of the rings/the hobbit. i have not read or watched any of them, so i apologize to the people who could tell this story way better than me, i have only heard a re-telling from my brother:
in the hobbit, there’s a dragon named smaug who sits on a pile of gold. he is the last dragon. someone named bilbo (and his friends (kinda sounds like nico and the- i’ll stop)) steals one of smaug’s golden cups.
smaug doesn’t believe bilbo will be able to escape, and so when he does manage it, smaug becomes completely enraged.
smaug goes outside of his cave, and begins burning down the city. like, burning the city to the ground.
he’s an extremely powerful beast. he has an “achilles heel” in his scaled armor, a weak spot, so, despite his power and strength, he is killed by one arrow only, and his death provoked the start of a battle.
i know this is a stretch. but what if we think of trash as sitting on a pile of creativity instead of gold, and when someone prevents that creativity from being fulfilled (bishops/dema) he is unable to contain his anger and finds a new way to express himself: through destruction.
i have a feeling the burnt masks are only the beginning
and the idea of trash burning dema down to the ground??? the start of a revolution??? banditos? i’m just saying that’d be so cool
“destruction is a form of creation” a quote from donnie darko, one of tyler’s favorite movies.

“i created this world to feel some control / destroy it if i want” tyler sings in bandito.
if it’s true that tyler has lost that sense of control, that his world (for the sake of the storyline) is no longer “his,” then maybe the only thing left to do is destroy.
