Characters who don’t need defending but I’m still going total defend them anyway:
Wen Chao.
Ok ok. I get it, we ALL hate this dude. I mean, I hate him too. Like, he’s done so much wrong and I just want to turn him into a human stick everytime I reread MDZS. But tbh, his character isn’t really his fault. It’s the result of terribly bad parenting.
If WRH did his best in raising this guy, I bet he and his brother could be like the twin flames to the (supposedly) twin prides and twin jades.
Su She.
Okay. I vv mad at Su She at the end tbh. Also mad at him for the stunt he pulled at Caiyi. Obviously, he is aware of the fact that HGJ is above him in so many levels and yet he dare try to stab that thing with his sword. Obviously, that won’t end well.
But if we think about it, it’s another bad parenting kinda skill. Plus: his peers didn’t even bother trying to talk to him anymore. Obviously HGJ is not to blame because how would he know that a fellow member is suffering when he had his own sect problems to worry about?
He is very much just in need of comfort, if someone to relate and understand him. Yes, he deserves the hate going at him. But he isn’t purely of fault here. It IS his own choices in the end, but what influenced them? Who taught him to choose those choices?
The answer is obviously the world, the people around him. Or maybe his parents. Or: he deducted this himself. But due to no guidance (yes, LQR is one of the guides but obv. LQR doesn’t ONLY focus on one student), he fell on the wrong path.

It is explained already in the story as to why XY needs to be defended. Yes: he is a monster. But who taught him to? Didn’t he just ask for candy? Why did that Chang dude have to destroy his pinky anyway? A candy is literally one of the cheapest sweets known to man.
It would have been fine if he told XY that: no, he doesn’t have candy.

Instead of ordering XY around and promising him candy. And then afterwards just break that trust and even destroy one of his body parts.
That’s just a bullshit move tbh.

If XY is a monster, again let me ask: who taught him to be?

The world only showed him a monstrous side. Never once did someone try to reach out to him.

Until XXC.
Jin Zixun.
This guy really gets on my nerves. Hearing his name makes me just regret reading mdzs. Thank God other characters make up for this guy. Anyway, he’s incredibly annoying.
But like all others, his ‘guides’ in life are probably aren’t too ideal as well. Say for example: the uncle he looks up to - JGS. Obviously, having a playboy, prideful, uncle was one of the worst choices he ever made. But to be fair: his uncle was ‘famous’. Obviously,
- he’d want to be famous and well respected as well. Ngl, JGS is also probably a well respected cultivator for his strength, because how could he become a sect leader if not for his power? Jin Zixun’s only problem was that he failed to accept the fact that his uncle can and will
make mistakes. So he is following into JGS’s footsteps and making himself an exact copy of this scum: prideful and wanton.

Once again, no one tries reaching out because they couldn’t handle his attitude. But if someone pestered him enough and showed him how wrong he is,
I’m thinking the outcome may change.
Wen Xu.
This guy literally only showed up in some split seconds before disappearing into the dust again. Only brief mentions then happened and nothing more. If you don’t know him, he’s infamous for burning the Gusu Lan sect.
Same with WC, this man knows nothing but power, control, and conquering. We can see that WRH doesn’t give a fuck about his sons. If he really did care, he should have scolded them or reprimanded them. Maybe even teaching them a move or two. Maybe more.
But the problem here is: they had to learn everything on their own. Their mother wasn’t even shown in the book. All we know about the mother is she was the one who gave birth to them; nothing more.
No one was there to show them familial love, which was always the first love to encounter in one’s life. That’s why they crave attention from other people. Boasting, flaunting their riches, abusing their power, just so others could notice them, and maybe say:
“Oh wow, that guy is amazing. I would love to be a part of his family”.

I think that’s all these two wanted, WC and Wen Xu. All they needed was someone to be there for them.

They could have been twin flames tbh and that would’ve been cool.
Yu Ziyuan.
This thread actually started because of her. So I don’t need to defend her cause it’s all right here. https://twitter.com/wrecklwj/status/1380527202039554049
