[♡] how rupaul's drag race and its fandom mistreats black performers, a thread
disclaimer: i don't condone any discriminatory or offensive comments or actions from the queens mentioned in this thread. however, that does not warrant the use of racially motivated discrimination towards any of these queens.

after james was crowned the winner of season 2 of drag race, he received racial abuse from fans from the get go, purely based on his portrayal on an edited reality tv show. (cont.)
it's also important to mention that although raven, a white queen, received a largely similar edit, she is regarded as a fan favourite and many claim she was "robbed" of winning season 2 of drag race. (cont.)
jasmine masters herself put it perfectly - you can't excuse the things james has said or done, but clearly it's linked to rabid fans who get a kick out of bullying queens of colour, which is in turn linked to producers who continuously use the angry black woman narrative. (cont.)
at the same time, the show makes desperate attempts to appear 'progressive' (e.g. by way of symone) but refuses to take serious accountability for the angry poc villain edit, or hold the fans accountable for how severely their hate affects black performers. (cont.)
the angry black woman narrative is continued through outlets like JakeyonceTV and various web tabloids. these irresponsibly add fuel to the fire of a witch-hunt of queens of colour for the sole purpose of clickbait headlines and easy views/page reads. (cont.)
the drag race fandom can not push someone so far to their breaking point and hide their hands when they make a cry for help. it is inhumane to expect someone to not reach their breaking point after an entire decade of hate, death threats, and racial abuse.
