you all say let’s not talk about Ivies and rejectives all the time but where is the story about how having Kamala and Chadwick in the spotlight this year and BLM movement over the summer will impact Howard and whether donations and activism will shift the landscape of HBCUs
I know in my community HBCUs are now becoming part of the dialogue in a way they haven’t been before and I have more Black students wondering if the PWIs can truly serve them
What about community colleges as well. @NOVAcommcollege has great work ensuring students have what they need during the pandemic and had fewer issues transitioning to virtual due to their history of serving online learners
What about long standing test optional and free institutions instead of the new ones who joined due to circumstances what can we learn from them
Have there been stories here and there... yes

But I have seen Georgetown is 93% test score acceptance more than here are colleges that are crushing test optional

I have seen this is what the rejectives are doing more than this is what the selectives are doing
And we can change this... y’all keep proposing fixes for Harvard as if they don’t claim to have some of the smartest people in the world working for them
Ivies are not broken- Ivies are WORKING BY DESIGN- they are serving who they want to serve so let’s stop pretending they need solutions they don’t want and don’t care about and start spotlighting others
Like @GeorgeMasonU who seems to be doing a good job keeping students safe while awarding generous aid packages to underrepresented students
Like @HollinsU who did a phenomenal job taking proactive measures to find a new pool of candidates this year
Like @VSU_1882 who is just doing great work overall keeping current students happy and engaged
Like @UToledo who changed their Presidential Scholarship to no required sat and act score within weeks of being told it was a problem in the Chroncile
Like @JMU that has been test optional for years and seems to be giving other schools in Virginia a run for their money
Like @UVAadmission who has content that anticipates students needs and makes students aware in advance they are very competitive but tells students it’s not personal and will support students even if they apply elsewhere
There are so many good stories we are missing out on and my list is far from comprehensive

We have to stop hyper-focusing on rejectives and Ivies
The rejectives aren’t broken, they are working by design

They didn’t forget to put out test-optional numbers- they don’t care to do it

They know how to fix the system- they like the system they have
And yes, there are some great admissions officers in those schools trying to be change agents. Some of them personally took time to work with my few students who wanted to apply
But that’s not the whole story of admissions or even 3%-less than 10%

So let’s make sure we remember that
