UPDATE: I did not intend for this intelligent-pop thread to be all-women, but it turned out that way. And who or possibly whom am I to argue? So I am #NowListening to LucindaWilliams' CarWheelsOnAGravelRoad, and this is a Good Thing.

Takes me right back to when I had just moved to London from a village near Sheffield. I was only just discovering (despite being in my mid-20s) that there was really good music out there. Music better than I had even imagined might exist during my sheltered overlong adolescence.
On another day I could tell you about how my hair turned white overnight after hearing the FlamingLips' "TalkinBoutTheSmilingDeathpornImmortalityBlues" for the first time in 1999. But they are not women, and therefore we CANNOT discuss them on this thread.
