Normalise knowing that Island Records didn’t think there was room enough for two black women in pop, got frustrated that Fefe Dobson refused to do sexier music, stopped her for the label and remade Rihanna in her exact image to precise SWF detail.
This isn’t Rihanna’s fault and she’s not to blame. It was the label choosing there was only room for one.
Fefe Dobson stood her ground about not sexualising her sound.

Island loved Fefe Dobson’s style though. Picture 2000s Black Avril Lavigne.
There were no Black artists like
her and none who played oop-rock “skater,” “punk.” Fefe Dobson was the only one.
She stood out.

They copied her edgy rock look down to her haircut and gave it to Rihanna.

Fefe was literally robbed of her personality.
Want to know how bizarre it got? Rihanna got several of Fefe’s tattoos.

Fefe Dobson has spoken about being kicked aside by the music industry.

Miley Cyrus was given Fefe’s music and songs she wrote without her knowledge. She found out when she heard her lyrics sung by Cyrus.
Correction: some of this may have been Rihanna’s doing who was vocal about being a fan of Fefe.

The multiple same tattoos is the skolliest part. 👀
Can we #FreeFefe?
Her music is good. I love her sound; it’s maddening she was quelled by the music industry.

I bring this up now because my moots and I were discussing music from 2000s and how one of my mates, a biracial black and Japanese girl said she looked up to Fefe for being the, also biracial, rock icon she was.

It’s quite maddening thinking how many other girls of colour who
felt out of place could have had Fefe as the person to relate and feel accepted.

Besides, her music is among my favourites. She deserved recognition.

I might make #freefefe happen. 😩
Rihanna, I love you now but you were weird for doing that. 🥺
The star tattoo above is one of the many Rihanna took from Fefe. Fefe said she designed the style of the star herself.
It’s even in the same spot...
