Something completely different today. A semi-quick thank-you thread to briefly tell the story of some people who physically saved my life this week for anyone who cares. If you don’t care, here are today’s Disney Pictures of #FlightsOfPassage :)
Long story short, like 10 yrs ago I went to @vumchealth medical wt loss center. 10 yrs, 180 lbs, 18” of waist, two hip and 1 knee replacement; it was time to get rid of some skin. I need my knee replacement adjusted, and they said this came first (it’s changed my centr of grav!)
I was referred to @galenperdikis at Vanderbilt Plastic Surgery ( https://search.vanderbilthealth.com/doctors/perdikis-galen) and he took me on as a patient. The benefits and side effects were explained to me, and my chances for side effects are greater than avg because of my weight. Still very low but worth it.
A few months later and three weeks ago, the surgery was done. It felt great and seem perfect. Early this week,I had a fever of over 102. I called in, talked to one of the medical staff, and based on pictures and discussion we waited. Tylenol Advil Wait
The next day I got a little worse, so Dr Perdikis decides for me to come up to @vumchealth ER room. Without complaining too much, I got there 30 min before the Men’s March Madness Final. I watched that entire game..
I was back in an ER room just after 1am. 5+ hrs later. And that is the last negative thing I have to say about the medical staff. (Apparently Mondays are their busiest days :)) The ER doctor was VERY concerned and the Plastic Surg fellow was very chatty, and very honest.
I had developed sepsis and they needed to operate. I got to say hi to Dr Perdikis again on Tuesday. Everyone has assured me, along with the Internet ( https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/surgical-site-infections) that it is a low percentage, normal occurrence and not my fault. The fix is high percentage unpleasant :)
The Plastic Surgery team at @vumchealth figured out the issue, fixed the issue, found the medicine to fix me, and taught my wife and I the process to deal with this for the next month(s). They treated me (as I heard from others) very well and honestly.
Finally, @valdavidson827 or @valpalmickey has been amazing. I gained even more respect for what she can do when she was packing my wound (don’t look it up if you’re squeamish), barely awake from lingering covid symptoms, making the same facial expressions as I saw my docs make :)
