What is the difference between a Mentor, Coach, Teacher & Facilitator?

As a course creator you need to be able to:

1. play all of these roles
2. know when to hire people to fill them

Mentor

• Has first-hand experience with the topic
• They can share from their personal experience
• They can empathize with students

Coach

• May or may not have experience in the topic
• Skilled at asking questions
• Good at reflecting back what they hear
• Can hold a space for students to have insights
• Holds students accountable

Teacher

• Expert on the topic
• Shares their knowledge and process for others to follow

Facilitator

• Creates an inclusive space for everyone to feel heard
• Focuses on drawing people out & building a supportive environment
• Keep track of time
• Responsible for moving the conversation forward
