Thinking about how someone should turn Long Beach into a bike city
Park Avenue has tons of room for a bike lane on each side of the street before you get to the West End
Things are a little tight on Beech Street if you keep the street parking on both sides, which probably no one would touch. But there’s an argument to make Oceanview Avenue a car-free street all the way to Connecticut Avenue
Broadway also absolutely has room for a bike lane, and you can’t even park next to the sidewalk. Maybe a couple loading zone issues to work out, but the street could use some work
Parking only gets really really bad during the summer when all the awful people who aren’t from Long Beach come to town, but I think a loud advertising campaign+beach pass discount incentive to reminding them to take the train to the beach could do some good work
You also have to beef up the bike share system if you’re gonna do this, especially for the tourists, but Long Beach deserves great bike share
