From the language within that clearly demonstrates no material understanding (or care) of how firearms work, down to the fact that a man involved in the Waco siege, in which 76 men, women, and children died, who lied about what happened during that time, is to be nominated...
to become the director of the ATF. The threat of the law is always going to be there, especially to those who have always been most targeted and marginalized by it, but this should be a wake-up call for a lot of us.
These motions are demonstrably political in the sense that...
they are not guidelines to build a healthier society, despite the language that may claim otherwise. This is an expansion of power of the state under the guise of safety at the expense of the individual's ability to manage their own personal safety and well-being.
But what is most offensive is the blatant leveraging of very real social issues that won't really be addressed here. Do you want to stop gun-related deaths? There are twice as many suicides as homicides by guns. Think about that.
We are twice as likely to use these implements on ourselves than anyone else. That is priority number one if we are to go by statistics.

The problem is these issues are not easily and quickly legislated away. These are inconvenient truths and symptoms.
We need to start by leading healthier lives. We need freer access to higher standards of healthcare. We need better emotional and mental health support. We need less isolation. Poverty, hunger, and housing insecurity need to be tackled.
Access to well-funded and thoughtfully tailored education instead of school to prison pipelines. None of this can be addressed by increasing the scope of what the state already abuses to target and criminalize those deemed...
as political enemies, at-risk marginalized identities, and the impoverished.
Yet here we are, ignoring the pink elephant in the room, fixated on a spectacle that is as hollow and empty as the messaging here. Every loss to gun violence is a tragedy and how we address that speaks louder than words. There is nothing more to be said here.
