If you have a disagreement with someone in your peer group or dislike a statement they made on one platform, and your response is to post about it on a platform they can't respond to or have no knowledge of?

You immediately lose my respect.

1/
Because it's clear to me you're not interested in discussion, you want a place where either your peers all think alike, or you don't respect/trust your peers enough to have honest, difficult conversations with them.

And in either scenario, why are you even there?

2/
I really want to know: what do you meaningfully gain from your subtweet? In what possible way have you advanced either of your positions?

You've pulled in other people who have *zero* context for your gripe. And they're your followers, so no shit they'll take your side

3/
Congratulations, you've created an echo chamber.

Don't get me wrong, it's normal and healthy to seek validation. That's what personal messages to friends or loved ones are for.

Bringing it here, roughly 1-2 degrees separated from the main cause, is shit for another reason.

4/
Let's say the person you disagreed with reads your tweet. They *know* it's about them. What are they supposed to do? Just scroll on like nothing happened?

Clearly not; you sure didn't.

So if they respond in *your* space, your echo chamber, they'll get dogpiled to hell.

5/
So now you've created a scenario where someone who probably wanted an honest discussion with you is left to process these new shitty feelings.

Why must they take the high road because you didn't?

6/
I've seen this happen twice in just as many weeks in a group I'm quite passionate about.

It extra sucks to see it come from people I admire in my field, to see that basic decency is no longer a given.

Typing this out, maybe I just need to look into other spaces.

SUPER IMPORTANT CAVEAT:

If you're tweeting bc the other actor is overtly harmful and continuing to engage directly would put you in danger, subtweet away!
