#AERA2021 friends - as you& #39;ve heard, the tech platform is a hot mess - grace & humor will carry the day & powerful generous scholarship wins out. But in case it& #39;s helpful, I wanted to share a few tips from bungling through the 1st time... @DivA_EdLead @DivisionAGSC

(2/)First, search through the 10,000 AERA emails you got & find the one that says: "AERA: Welcome to the AERA Virtual Conference Center!" That has a password in it that you will need sign in here: https://aera21am.simcita.net"> https://aera21am.simcita.net .

(3/) The rest of this is for presenters, as I haven& #39;t experienced participating. Search for your presentation. You won& #39;t be able to log into your session until 10 min before it starts. At that time, there will be an arrow to the left that you can click to get in. DO GET ON EARLY!

(4/) Be sure you are using Chrome, btw. Once you have selected your computer for audio, you may be able to hear others but not SEE yourself or anyone else. Look for a blue button that says something like "Webinar" & click that.

(5/) You may also need to turn your camera & mic on. There& #39;s a limit to 9 videos on - the system seemed to kick people out when we tried to go above that. With someone on to facilitate & ASL interpretation, it& #39;s easy to go above that. Coordinate so only 9 of you have cameras on.

(6/) Many of us had trouble sharing our screens. There is a delay, so be a little patient, but if it doesn& #39;t work, you can use the chat to send your file to another presenter who can share for you.

(7/) Either a tech person who never made themselves known (even tho we could& #39;ve used the help!) or the system seemed to automatically let participants in at the right time. You will not see them. The session also starts recording.

(8/) You can toggle your view by going to the top left where you& #39;ll be able choose "Cameras" or "Screen". The chat opens & is pretty self-explanatory once you click around a bit.

(9/9) I think we just need to normalize dealing w/the tech mess & ask that we all give each other grace as we try to make do with a suboptimal platform & AERA experience.
