From our naval family, #WeTheNavy extend our deepest condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and members of the Royal Family.
His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh had close ties with the Royal Canadian Navy as the Honorary Admiral of the RCN since 2011, and had also been appointed Admiral of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets in 1953.
In June 2010, the RCN hosted an International Fleet Review as part of its Centennial celebrations, which saw Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip pay tribute to Canada’s Navy in grand and historic style -
- sailing amid an armada of 30 warships assembled for her inspection in Halifax Harbour. With Prince Philip beside her, Her Majesty also greeted dozens of waiting naval veterans, who fought in both the Second World War and Korea.
The veterans were turned out with medals and were thrilled to visit with Her Majesty as she and Prince Philip thanked them for their service so many years ago.
Our thoughts are with the members of the Royal Family as we remember and pay tribute to Prince Philip’s service now.
