“Oh maybe isym wanted the reader to see for themselves how 104 has completely lost touch w reality” I’m no longer giving yams the benefit of doubt. Because even Pieck, who has been opposed to Eren & has only seen him as the enemy, wanted to talk to him. That’s some bs

Like AMJC were finally convinced that Eren needs to be stopped after some long and painful (for the reader) debate. Good! But I guess I can.. accept them still being hung up on Eren (if it’s being presented as an unhealthy dependency). But the path exposition reasoning is so weak
Eren : “ idk why I did tumbled away 80% of humanity.. I guess I just wanted to do it! :) plus you guys can play the hero (after thought)”
The rest : Aww Eren ... you’re really a good guy after all :))
Like how in the world is that an acceptable justification?

Jean who hesitated to kill during uprising & chose to be in the alliance instead of living as “safe” life on paradis bc he can’t accept the rumbling, accepted Eren’s piss poor excuse?? Connie who hesitated killing his former comrades forgiving Eren just bc he turned his mom back
And let’s talk Armin? He condemned the rumbling when it started and at the beginning of the chapter but then completely switched around to thank Eren for his genocide? AND HIS BIGGEST GRIP WITH EREN IS THAT HE HURT MIKASA AND NOT THAT HE WIPED OUT 80% OF HUMANITY?!
Mikasa who showed evidence of getting past her dependency by throwing out her scarf and getting the resolve to kill Eren, only to kiss him and spend the rest of her life mourning him. This is not even character regression. This is character assassination.
All of this I can still accept (albeit with difficulty) if it’s presented as something to be frowned upon. It’s not too crazy to think AMJC might still think of Eren as not utter trash bc they’ve shown signs of being really selfish
But with even Pieck agreeing? That’s just unthinkable. Pieck has never seen anything redeemable in Eren, ever. If even Pieck is being used to express a positive emotion towards Eren, then isym really did try to paint Eren in a good light. & the readers are supposed to accept the
104’s gratitude at face value. I cannot believe all the build up lead to “genocide is ok (if u do it for ur friends)” and “one (acceptable) way of solving our differences is to erase it :)” seriously. What the hell.
Attack on titan is built upon the themes of freedom, personal responsibilities, self interest vs greater good, etc. The ending affirmed all the terrible options and tried to present them as “good”. I can’t accept that
I get that ridiculous sequences of events can happen in real life as a series of coincidences. However, Attack on Titan is a story and stories are supposed to have character arcs/progression and a thematic wrap up. Don’t tell me it’s “subverting expectations”.
Not giving characters proper closure is NOT subverting expectations. It’s just bad story telling. In fact, I’m pretty sure to break rules you have to know what rules are in the first place.
All in all, I think the concept of the ending is pretty terrible and that the execution is even worse
