An interpretation of this scene:
The first thing noticeable is the image of the real world, the world WE AS HUMANS live in. This is done to set up the existence of the real world in the show. However what’s the difference, you can hear lains name constantly repeated. Lain

name constantly repeated. Lain is literally interfering with the real world from within the show. She is transcending even the limits of the tv program she is in, making her themes far more applicable to real life situations. What follows is a news program,this is meant to

convey the feeling that this is a message to everybody. In a sense the world is now connected through that news program, in a sense WE ARE NOW THE NETWORK. Notice how the background is containing real life destinations. The REAL WORLD is merging with the WIRED(a more immersive

form of the internet) We have been merged into the wired. What follows Is now the message “let’s all love lain” constantly being repeated. It is symbolically an overflow of information meant to brainwash us into “loving lain”. There is a lack of order in the potrayal of the

message, it is rough,twisted, excessively fast. All of these feelings are meant to convey the feeling of being overloaded and brainwashed.But the beauty of this is that lain is the one doing all of this, she is in a sense the personification of the wired. Notice how she tries to

talk in the beginning but you can’t hear her voice. Instead you get a message from the news man, she literally manipulates the wired to send out her words into the real world, MERGING AGAIN.
Now why should we love lain, it is said during “ the truth has power because it’s the

truth. And because it’s the truth, it is just” what do news reporters do, they’re meant to tell you the truth. By going through with this logic, we should love lain solely because we should love lain. It is an attack on the personality of human beings as we lose our ability to

choose because of lain.
Now what is the 7th protocol? This is when the population of humans on the earth reaches the same number as the neurons in the brain, in a sense making the earth a human brain. As the body sends electrical signals from the brain to control the body,

when the number of humans reach this number, this ability can then be used between humans on earth making us a network.
Now what is the real life application of this? If we as humans get too immersive into software,internet, electronics etc. we can lose our “identity”. Think

about it, what if someone manipulated all your personal info on the internet, that identity is no longer the “real” you but is still “you”. You have literally lost yourself and your power over the internet. Your credit card details can be manipulated, your certificates can be

changed, your signature can be signed. Lain is literally a warning of this danger. She is a representation of these dangers in their entirety. I think from here, you get this gist of the scene
