this has happened over and over throughout history, to humans in general but tween and teen girls in specific. there& #39;s a reason we have a trope that pubescent girls are vulnerable to possession, devilment, witchcraft, etc https://www.vice.com/en/article/88n4ap/teenage-girls-tics-lockdown">https://www.vice.com/en/articl...
there is usually a teen/tween girl in the house in "poltergeist" cases, the beginnings of witch trials, dancing plagues, and of course the many cases of mass hysteria in nunneries. the vice article doesnt even point out this happened RECENTLY, in 2012 https://www.forbes.com/sites/alicegwalton/2012/01/23/12-teens-who-suddenly-developed-involuntary-tics-get-diagnosis-conversion-disorder/?sh=53e1aaf06434">https://www.forbes.com/sites/ali...
*witch hysteria, not witch trials. no one knows why this is the case but my very general guess is that the culture and lived experience of pubescent girls is a magic combo of extremely stressful & extremely empathetic in a way that other types of humans dont experience the same
its so pronounced that i remember my dad actually mentioning the historical significance of it when i was about 10? he wasnt superstitious he just said it as a point of interest/curiosity to a person he saw was entering that stage of life
notice i point out culture and experience vs biological imperative. i dont think theres anything physical or biological about a teen girl that makes her more likely to be possessed by the devil lol. and i typed "me" first on autopilot which tells you something
