1/3 Walking my dog. Guy came up (no mask) and asked if I were Chinese. Said he wanted to be able to "guess" correctly when he met another Asian. Not the 1st time this happened but today I'm thinking about it in relation to #stopaapihate and how these questions are racist.
2/3 Guy said "I hope this isn't off-putting." I said "yes actually it is." With all injustice that happened esp this past year, I've become better at confronting (which I usually am not). Guy got away before I gave him a lesson on xenophobia and the perpetual foreigner stereotype
3/3 I'm curious, have you encountered similar situations where people asked where you're from in a clearly #racist and #antiAsian manner, but also masking it by insisting on some good/naive intention? How do you respond? Also kudos to my dog for giving that guy some solid borks
