First off everyone needs to understand that although coal is hated you simply can not make new steel with out metallurgical coal (coking coal) and I believe the world is going to be needing a lot more steel in the coming years and in particular domestic steel in the USA

In the USA about 70% of steel is recycled steel (electric arc furnace EAF) and 30% new steel (blast furnace). All blast furnace still starts with two basic ingredients, Iron Ore and Coking Coal.

Blast Furnace steel production has been running very low for years in the USA and particularly so in 2020. Note in 2017-2018 it only got to 70% utilization.
