Tammy Abraham’s current situation at Chelsea.

Deserving of more game time or justified exclusion?

Tammy has yet to play since the end of February due to an injury and Tuchel’s selections. Does he deserve more game time? The answer is yes. He’s not had as many opportunities to impress. That’s a fact. Tammy is Chelsea’s leading goalscorer this season so far with 12 goals.

Tammy has played the 7th least minutes in the squad too. Chelsea are playing well & winning but the lack of goals has been a clear weakness. Tammy, when given a run of starts, will provide goals (18 last season). On this evidence, no doubt he is deserving of more.

Furthermore, Tuchel has opted to favour Werner in particular with numerous opportunities despite his clearly poor goal scoring form. Yes, Timo has been helpful in our attacking play but has he warranted 3k mins to Tammy’s 1.5k & Giroud’s 1.1k especially when we need more goals?

Despite all this, to say it’s a Tuchel agenda is too harsh. Tammy has been injured & inevitably missed games due to it. There’s no doubt it’s not easy to suddenly throw a player into the starting XI after such a long time out at a crucial point in our season.

Moreover, we have to accept that there will be external factors. Managers have their preferences & choices. They can’t please everyone. Whether we like it or not, Tuchel would’ve been asked to get the most out of big signings Werner/Havertz & that clearly means more chances.

At the end of the day, Chelsea are winning and that’s all that matters. Yes, Tammy deserves more chances but with it being such a crucial point in our season, it’s no surprise Tuchel is reluctant to throw him in. The two PL starts he was given, Tuchel wasn’t impressed.

Tammy clearly has to fight for his spot and there’s no doubt he has the quality to do it but others (Odoi, Pulisic, Ziyech etc) have found chances hard to come by recently too but one thing remains the same, when they get the chance, they have to take it.

Werner’s struggles in front of goal points to the need to try something different. Why not afford the same chances to Tammy/Oli, who are yet to have any continuity with game time. Yes, we’re winning but it won’t be long until our lack of goals costs us.
