@VMwareFusion upgraded to 12 and now Bridged network adapter breaks the hash checking function in my Debian repos causing mismatch errors. Any idea what changed?
I downloaded the repo package via NAT and Bridged separately and then hashed them: verified they don't match. I wonder if Debian is presenting me with an OSX version of the repo data when I'm using the host MAC address? Time to look at packets!
Packets are identical with the exception of the MAC addresses. Looks like this is an issue with how the hashes are generated. And for some reason Bridged mode causes a situation where the handling of the hashes is either changed in the VM or intercepted and modified in transit.
So...is bug?
I’ve been obsessed with this all day and the only explanation I can think of is that apt is offloading checksum to the NIC and for some reason bridge mode breaks this. Alright end of thread I guess.
