We all know the Rolling Stones and Treitel story, right?

If not here it is.

Treitel was a law Fellow at Magdalen in the early 60s.

The Rolling Stones were booked by the Junior Common Room to appear at Magdalen Ball.

Then the Rolling Stones had their first hit record.

The manager of the Rolling Stones then demanded more money. A lot more. Far more than the JCR could afford, and now too late for them to book anyone else.

So, the students went to see the College's law fellow.

/3
His advice

"Agree to what is asked, and then come back to see me after the Ball."

Which the students did.

/4
They then went to see him, and he handed them a copy of Stilk v Myrick (which stands for the proposition that a promise to pay more for a service already contractually entitled to is for no good consideration, and so unenforceable).

/5
"Give him that."
