I see people are discovering that Tucker Carlson descends from immigrants who left other countries for the more promising shores of America and had trouble assimilating and learning English.

And I'll remind you that in 1751 Benjamin Franklin worried that the Germans in PA would “shortly be so numerous as to Germanize us instead of our Anglifying them, and will never adopt our Language or Customs, any more than they can acquire our Complexion.”
Shortly indeed. 1751.

In 1896, a piece in the Atlantic bemoaned how “Fifty, even thirty years ago, there was a rightful presumption regarding the average immigrant that he was among the most enterprising, thrifty, alert, adventurous, and courageous of the community from which he came.”

“Today the presumption is completely reversed.”

TLDR: we have a long history of trying to pull up the ladder behind us. "Our" wave of immigration was always the "good" one.
