Hey teachers, what sorts of things have YOU bought for your students?
I’ll start: several grad dresses. Shoes.

I used to buy this one kid a slurpee on Friday if he made it to school everyday. Sometimes if he made it most of the days. His attendance improved enormously. He really liked slurpees.

Oh, toilet paper. When I worked with young adults, many of them were on their own for the first time. TO was a biggie.

I know a lot of the teachers and EAs adding to this thread personally and every single one of them is underestimating what they do.

Anyone else notice how many of these responses included food? Personal hygiene products? Warm clothing? That’s poverty folks. In MB more than half of single parents live in poverty.
