Dear bioethics ECRs: It is normal to sometimes feel a bit lonely (and behind) when working on applied issues in philosophy if you are reading both the science and the philosophy. 1/4
This can lead to a feeling of a disconnect between the base of knowledge you are building and much of mainstream debate that is taking place. For example, you might think: 'why are they saying that -I know it isn't possible' or 'people should be paying more attention to this' 2/4
This sense of disconnect is normal (albeit an uncomfortable space to occupy). The fact is that many are not doing the excellent cross-disciplinary work you are doing. Don't stop! This is how contributions are made. Stick with it! 3/4
Just keep in touch with your peers across disciplines and rigorously scrutinise what you are writing. Don't be afraid to challenge what appears to be the conventional wisdom. Don't be afraid to question what is being said in your field. 4/4
