Worth remembering that every drug, vaccine or medical intervention can cause very rare adverse effects which may not be picked up by large phase 3 clinical trials. These events show up in post-marketing surveillance when the product has been delivered to millions.
This doesn't mean that the intervention is bad or useless. In some cases it means there needs to be additional guidance on how the intervention is used and heightened vigilance on possible rare adverse effects. The J&J and A/Z vaccines remain excellent #covid19 vaccines.
I'll take the example of heparin a popular anticoagulant we use frequently in hospitalized patients. On occasion in some individuals it may cause HIIT- heparin induced thrombocytopenic thrombosis, a serious rare but treatable complication. We still use heparin w monitoring!
šŸ“ŒAt the end of the day the world needs #COVID19 vaccines to end this epidemic .
šŸ“ŒTo date 726M vaccines have been delivered worldwide, the largest global mass vaccination of my life-time.
šŸ“ŒRare adverse effects will of course appear with that many people being vaccinated.
šŸ“ŒThis doesn't mean we throw the baby out with the bath water.
šŸ“ŒIt should mean we learn how to use the tools at hand (vaccines) in the best and safest way possible.
šŸ“Œ #COVID19 has claimed 3M lives globally and counting
#VaccinesWork and are the way we end this pandemic. FIN
