Really looking forward to this event later today. Heavyweights in the field discussing how Covid is transmitted. Implications are huge, if we agree its airborne, we can protect billions of people with better masks and ventilation strategies. Dr. John Conly is chair of a WHO expert group responsible for much of their current infection control policy
The WHO is hugely influential in setting policies for 194 member countries; any movement by them on this issue will have a huge impact on the lives of billions.
Advocates have been arguing that SARS2, like SARS1 has significant airborne spread, proven by superspreader events... now only worsened with the new variants. @zeynep's work has been a huge help to us front-liners trying to advocate for this. https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1288829829912113154?s=20
The debate for me is very much a personal one; I was a medical student when SARS hit Toronto. Was quarantined along with half my class. Airborne precautions, wearing an N95 for every minute in the hospital, helped crush that outbreak. I have no doubt SARS2 will be the same.
We've been trying to draw attention to this issue for months with open letters and campaigns, but sadly we are still not protecting workers with proper masks, and the results in this new wave are obvious for all to see https://twitter.com/JenniferKShea/status/1346067097269501953?s=20
The amazing @dfisman and @kprather88 are participating. Thanks to all the aerosol scientists, clinicians, epis and others who have really been advocating for this: @linseymarr @jljcolorado @CorsIAQ @ShellyMBoulder @DGBassani @DrEricDing @caruzycki @DrZoeHyde @DavidElfstrom
The poster is a bit of an homage to the greatest fight poster ever! Rumble in the Jungle with the GOAT vs Foreman.
