"CryptoPunks are the alpha & omega of the CryptoArt movement. This is a historic sale."
- @ChristiesInc

The world's most powerful auction house, Christie's, has just announced the auction of 9 CryptoPunks.

I purchased punk #2325 for $200,000 USD. A thread explaining why.👇 /1
I’ve been in crypto since 2016. ETH was first. When I first understood it, I took leave from university, worked 5 part time jobs & moved to a room as large as my mattress to buy more ETH. 20+ projects including ICON followed.

Crypto felt inevitable. I had conviction. /2
In 2020, the NFT space exploded. As beautiful as some of the art was, it was difficult to comprehend the exorbitant prices they demanded. As a crypto native though, it was exciting.

I strived to understand. /3
So I dived into the space with 1 goal in mind: “find an NFT I want to own.”

What followed was a conclusion I did not expect. /4
The more I studied the space, the more I realized that I had been standing at the epicenter of a paradigm shift.

History was being written. NFTs were transforming core concepts of ownership and the metaverse was challenging the boundaries of reality. /5
Somewhere between the @Beeple pieces, the clubhouse conversations, @Zoink's monologue, @MetaKovan's insights into history and @DirSchmidt's NFT film with @Twobadour, it clicked. This space would challenge everything I accepted as normal.

It's inevitable. I have conviction. /6
So, coming back to the original goal. What NFT did I want to own? I wanted to own history.

Here's the conclusion I shared with my friend @Leejayrobertson back in March. /7
“For me, cryptopunks, and the appeal of buying a part of history since cryptopunks are the first NFTs that influenced the cryptoart movement, and I can truly imagine them being displayed in museums within years." /8
"This attraction is heightened infinitely more so because of the timing of the moment.

It feels like we are at the inflection point of the NFT industry and technology and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to buy history as it is being written.” /9
Punk #2325 was a manifestation of my desire to own crypto metaverse history, but it won’t be my last.

I look forward to diving further and learning more from the likes of @seedphrase, @punk4156, @gmoneyNFT, @peruggia_v, @justintrimble, @beaniemaxi & many more. /10
