Let me share some thoughts on training - how to train, how to program, how to get strong.

TRAINING PHILOSOPHY THREAD
1. Let me kick it off with an unpopular opinion:

You don't need to write everything down.

Learn what works for you. If writing your training down helps you, go for it.

For me, it was a detriment more than it was a help.

The important thing is that you train HARD.
2. Listen to your body.

This is especially true if you're trying a new program or working with a new coach.

It takes time to understand how you are going to react to a new stimuli.

There is a fine line between pushing too hard and pushing just hard enough.

Find it.
3. It's all about that volume.

If you are training for strength the overarching goal of any program is to progressively add more volume.

Through volume comes strength.
3a. Volume is total poundage lifted.

Sum of all (Repetitions x Weight Lifted) = Volume

Add volume regularly. As you get stronger, you will need to be smarter about how you do this.

Strength takes time. Trust your process.
4. Form is important.

Don't allow yourself to lift with garbage form.

Further to that point - make all of your light warmup sets look just like your heavy working sets.

Approach every repetition with the same focus and intensity.

Be mechanical.
5. Function over form.

If you were to ask me my opinion, I would say everyone should train for performance over aesthetics.

Aesthetics happen in the kitchen more than in the gym, anyway.

Focus on getting strong and the physique will come.
6. There it is - 5 general training philosophy ideas.

Yes, I am painting with an incredibly wide brush here.

Yes, there are exceptions to every rule.

Yes, there is far more to these than what I can fit in 260 characters.
