As the UP court allows an ASI survey of Gyanvapi Mosque, the usual suspects are crying foul that it sets the stage for demolition & violates Muslim rights. In reality even without ASI evidence, Aurangzeb’s own court records give plenty of proof of how he destroyed the temple

The Persian Maasir-I-Alamgiri shows how he destroyed Kashi and Mathura temples. 1st evidence is a general order for destruction of temples in Varanasi. On 9th April 1669, Aurangzeb in Islamic zeal, ordered governors to demolish schools & temples of the infidels in these areas

This order applied specifically to the provinces of Thatta, Multan and especially at Benaras. The 2nd evidence (p. 55) refers clearly to the demolition of the Kashi Vishwanath temple at Kashi in September, 1669 A.D.

The fact that he built mosques at the site of destroyed temples is evidenced by the account of destruction of the Keshavanth Mandir in Mathura, of the most magnificent temples in India. Accomplishing this “seemingly impossible work showed “strength of the Emperor’s faith”.

Aurangzeb celebrated by taking the broken Murtis and burying them under the steps of the mosque at Agra Fort, so that people would keep stepping on them and Hindus would be humiliated forever.
