Armin& #39;s character in chapter 139 is heavily misinterpreted. Here& #39;s how Armin was actually thinking of the situation, including the rest of the alliance

THREAD
We all know Armin and Eren are long-standing best friends since childhood. Their bond is very intimate as they share a childhood dream: to see the outside world as described by this book, to taste freedom.
Armin was never physically gifted, he& #39;s someone intelligent and a strategic planner, and has shown to have questionable morality and he explicitly said how he doesn& #39;t consider himself a good person
But also, Armin even with his few emotional breakdowns, he& #39;s generally an understanding person who shows emotional intelligence in his ability to empathize and understand situations for what they are, and he uses it in his planning like in Trost, RTS, and now
Also he continuously shows how he would always rather opt for "other ways" to do things, typically more peaceful or diplomatic solutions to problems, to avoid bigger problems, but only if possible. He& #39;s been continuously shut down, even this chapter
In 139, he& #39;s here having a 1-on-1 with said best friend, a very emotional talk, bc all things considered Armin here is still attached to Eren. He can& #39;t help how he feels towards him. He& #39;s undoubtedly upset at the way things turned out between them bc ofc he feels betrayed by Eren
But throughout their talk in Paths, Armin is coming to understand what Eren is explaining to him, and he visibly shows how horrified he is at info presented to him. But also, he does express moments where he is clearly upset at things he& #39;s done
Also bc of his ability to empathize, here before witnessing the Rumbling firsthand, he is seeing Eren& #39;s emotions for what they are, and is understanding his pain, so instead of reprimanding him, he quickly decides to try to alleviate them
Here he wants to try and change things bc he doesn& #39;t want to see his friend suffer any longer and he& #39;d like to avoid such an atrocious option that hurts everyone in the process. He& #39;s quickly shut down by Eren tho, and Armin& #39;s face is showing terror
That& #39;s when Armin comes to understand the reality of the situation, when he& #39;s shown the carnage of the Rumbling. This is Eren: selfish, childish, mentally unstable extremist, violent, etc... Eren will do what he wants with his freedom and his mind can& #39;t be changed.
Armin shows horror and sadness here bc he& #39;d rather these things not happen. But on top of the previous tweet, Armin knows this is the last conversation he& #39;s going to have with his childhood friend. Eren is going to die. Nothing will change that. So for his final moments +
he& #39;s not going to go on a morality rant on how Eren shouldn& #39;t have done this, bc, again, Armin knows there& #39;s no point and that it will amount to nothing but just more pain that& #39;s redundant to add. So Armin processes this situation as is, and decides to acknowledge Eren.
He acknowledges Eren by thanking him, NOT for having killed 80% of ppl bc he meant it in a good way, but to tell him "you did something awful, I can& #39;t change you, what& #39;s done is done, but I will capitalize on this atrocity for the sake of what& #39;s left of us". Which is +
why Eren shows surprise here. Eren isn& #39;t happy becoming this mass genocider, but he was happy that Armin understood him despite how terrible things have gone. Eren wouldn& #39;t feel good ab Armin thanking him for losing his mind and sanity and killing ppl, he feels good Armin +
understood that something will be done ab this, as one of Eren& #39;s goals was to give eldia a fighting chance. He& #39;s happy Armin will accept & take that fighting chance.

This conversation brings Armin pain, but also relief for being able to converse with Eren without leaving words +
unsaid.

So these moments here, we can assume everyone& #39;s seen what Eren meant, so they& #39;re all feeling the same.

They feel anger, grief, sadness, hurt that this happened. They dont revere him but they& #39;re shocked that those were his motives, but they are also relieved like Armin
They& #39;re upset bc they never asked Eren for this, they didn& #39;t want to be dragged into this, but nonetheless it happened, so they feel negatively but also can& #39;t help but feel a bittersweet relief at the titan curse vanishing, and freely reuniting with their loved ones
Marley got spooked again bc of the sudden titan appearance and raise their arms again, but Armin steps forward to turn down their accusation that they& #39;re still titans, and takes credit for Eren& #39;s kill as Mikasa didn& #39;t want to be presented, but also, as he& #39;s commander, and he +
steps forward to be the one to deal with Marley in the best way possible, without antagonizing them and for him to make use of the carnage as Eren intended, since Eren believed Armin will be the one to "save the world"
