1. I grew up sheltered from a lot of the conflict here. I was brought up Catholic, went to a Catholic primary school where I was the minority (1 of 7 catholics) in my class which was rare in the late 90s and early 00s and attended a protestant grammar.
2. I lived in a relatively middle class area and was brought up to treat everyone the way I wish to be treated. When I started teaching I realised the true extent of my sheltered upbringing and how privileged I was.
3. Young people are collateral damage in this violence. A lot of them did not get the educational, social and holistic support I did. A lot of them also didn& #39;t get to mix with people different to them. This is a large part of the problem.
4. Having taught in integrated, Protestant and Catholic schools and having been involved in Shared Education with P3s, children do not see divides, they don& #39;t see prejudice. They see another kid they want to play with when they& #39;re simply allowed to do so.
5. It& #39;s adults with their own lived experiences, prejudices + ignorance that instill it in kids and its vital that youth outreach and schools play a part in helping our young people. But the gov have to take responsibility for their part in all this. Take leadership and wise up
