Oh how the internet and its products benefits from outrage. A CH room on in the wee hours and now ended made a lot of people upset. Rooms were opened to discuss people's outrage. People who just woke up now and did not hear the original statements are getting outraged second hand
And hundreds of people gather, getting told the stories over and over again. People ask for details of the original thing being said which they did not hear and responding by saying it "disturbs" them. By the end of the day hundreds of people will say they have been harmed.
By the end of the day people who hear these stories third hand will say this is violence to them. And there will be rooms talking about rooms that are talking about the room which first caused irritation. Most of the people will never hear the actual words that were spoken.
And this keeps people on the app. Keeps people engaging with the products of the internet. Keeps people's eyes glued. Allegations will be made. Stories will be retold, and perhaps completely altered by the end of it. And it will all be "violence". And violence sells. Like sex.
Snowden spoke about this, this week. It is all by design. This is how engagement happens now. It benefits the internet market place if people get upset and outraged because it keeps them online and keeps them engaged in a space where advertisers need to sell apps and products.
So we stay up saying X said something at 3am that offends me. And at 6am we tell people: did you know X who you do not know said something offensive? And you should be offended? And you say wow I am hurt by that. And you say to Y: did you hear what X said? You should be upset.
And when one person down the line in the chain says hmmm, no, that does not make me upset then we say ah, you are a traitor, how can you not be upset, surely you are part of the problem.
I am not making this up. This exact thing happened. How can we stop getting sucked in?
