For @TheVeganSociety and @OurFutureNormal’s #FutureNormalDay, I want to share the story of six hens, Lacey, Bluebell, Winnie, Cleo, Olive and Primrose. In 2018, my mum rescued them from down the road.

The hens were ‘point of lay' and were on their way to an egg farm, where they would have lived for 18 months. Then, they would be “dispatched” (killed) as they would no longer be “productive” enough.

I have talked fairly often about the chickens here and I have written about them extensively. They changed my life and I still think about them every day.

I feel so lucky to have known them, and for them to have shared their lives with me, trusted me, and been my friends. I hope that through my work and love, I do them justice.
