It’s Friday 🎉

What has your training week been like so far? If you’re struggling to get out and run regularly, this is for you.

To kickstart the weekend, I want to share some thoughts on how to make running a permanent fixture in your life.

Thread 🧵👇
“A solid routine fosters a well-worn groove for one’s mental energies and helps stave off the tyranny of moods.”

That’s a quote by Mason Currey. It shines a light 🔦 on how to make running a habit.
Currey may have had thinkers, writers and other creatives in mind when writing that statement.

But it is as true for someone looking to make running a regular part of their life as it is for the writer.
To become a regular runner, you have to “stave off the tyranny of moods.”

If you only run when you feel like doing it, you’ll never enjoy the many, many benefits of regular running.
Establishing a routine helps stave off the tyranny of moods.

With a routine in place, you’ll save yourself the effort of having to convince yourself to get out and run every time.

It’s not a negotiable aspect of your life, but simply something you do.
And, no, a routine doesn’t have to be a daily endeavour.

I’ve helped beginner runners establish a routine of running twice per week.

The mechanics are the same, whether it’s every day or every Tuesday and Thursday.
Remove friction and reliance on fleeting motivation, or the tyranny of moods.

As soon as you do, you’re already well on your way to running regularly. Or, I like the sound of this much better; becoming a runner 🏃🏽‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️
