Are you happy you can stand or sit upright?

Thank your spine, an important part of the skeletal system.

Last week we started the series, "The Spine And Common Problems" and promised to continue today.

So Here We Go...
1. KYPHOSIS.

This condition is commonly called "HUNCHBACK".

Common causes of kyphosis include:
- Aging
- Muscle weakness in the upper back
- Arthritis or bone degeneration
- Injury to the spine
- Slipped discs

Kyphosis can lead to pressure on the spine causing pain.
2. SLIPPED DISK

The spine is made up of small bones called vertebrae stacked on each other.

In between each bone is a "disk" that protects the bones by absorbing shocks from daily activities.

A slipped disk refers to a problem with one of the disks in between the vertebrae.
3. SCOLIOSIS

It's the abnormal curvature of the spine.

The normal shape of the spine includes the curve at the shoulder and the lower back.

In scoliosis, the spine is curved in an "S" or "C" shape.

Common Causes include :
- Cerebral palsy
- Birth defect
- Muscle weakness
4. SPINAL CORD INJURY

This is damage to the spinal cord.

Common Symptoms Of Spinal Cord Injury Includes:
- Inability to walk
- Loss of control of the ability to urinate or pass feaces
- Unconsciousness
- Headache
- Pain, pressure, and stiffness in the back or neck area, etc
We won't be able to exhaust all the common spine problems available because they're many.

PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR SPINE!

Please go to the hospital whenever you notice any of the symptoms we've mentioned in some of these common spine problems.

Early presentation remains the best.
