Also, the death of MK, blunt, and SL definitely had an impact, and SA radio was abysmal at actually giving us the good shit. This is the same country where Prime Circle and The Parlotones are STILL popular, and I blame the media for that.
The history of SA rock music from 2000 - 2014 is the story of one fumbled bag after another.
What's interesting to me though is that a lot of people who were in bands you used to like have released even better music with new projects but rock music isn't cool anymore so you don't hear about it.
